The Titiraukawa Native Plant Nursery is much more than a construction project—it's an investment in the future of ecological restoration across Te Tauihu. Before the nursery could begin growing native plants at scale, the site first required the civil infrastructure needed to support a modern, purpose-built operation.
Located at Pelorus Bridge, the greenfield site demanded a complete package of enabling works, from earthworks and access roads through to wastewater systems, potable water supply and stormwater infrastructure. Every element needed to work together to create a platform capable of supporting both the nursery facilities and future operational growth.
-
Working in a remote environment required careful planning, close coordination and a flexible approach to delivery.
Construction was undertaken alongside other contractors working concurrently on site, making communication and programme management critical to maintaining overall project momentum. At the same time, the project needed to balance practical construction requirements with respect for the surrounding natural environment, ensuring infrastructure was delivered responsibly while supporting the nursery's long-term environmental purpose.
-
As head contractor, Tasman Civil delivered a fully integrated civil works package that established the foundations for the new nursery. The project included substantial earthworks to create the building platform, construction of the access road and working pavements, installation of stormwater infrastructure, potable water reticulation from existing bores, wastewater pump stations, pressure pipelines and a new wastewater disposal field.
Working collaboratively with the project managers, engineers and client team, Tasman Civil maintained a solutions-focused approach throughout construction. Open communication and coordinated programming ensured multiple contractors could operate safely and efficiently within the site while maintaining progress across the wider development.
Quality, safety and environmental management remained central throughout delivery. With robust planning, disciplined site management and a collaborative project culture, the team successfully delivered the civil infrastructure required to bring the nursery vision to life.
-
The completed civil works provide the essential infrastructure that enables the Titiraukawa Native Plant Nursery to operate and expand into the future.
Delivered on programme and within budget, with zero Lost Time Injuries, the project demonstrates Tasman Civil's ability to successfully deliver complex infrastructure in remote environments where collaboration, adaptability and quality are fundamental to achieving long-term outcomes. It's a project that reflects how thoughtful civil construction can help create lasting environmental benefits for future generations.
